Actress and Singer Jen Lilley and Singer Bryan Lanning Team Up for a 2020 Edition of “Baby, It’s Cold Outside”

“2020 is on the naughty list,” actress and singer/songwriter Jen Lilley proclaims as she and singer Bryan Lanning bring light-hearted humor to the difficult year that is 2020 in their rendition of the mega holiday hit “Baby, It’s Cold Outside;” made famous by the 1949 film Neptune’s Daughter. The song is now available on all streaming platforms and can be heard HERE. Proceeds from music sales will go towards purchasing holiday gifts for 400 homeless children in Lilley’s hometown of Roanoke, VA. The song is available for purchase HERE.

Keeping the authenticity of the song, some lyrics remain the same, while others are spun in reference to the realities and life-altering habits inflicted by the pandemic. With lyrics such as “The neighbors might think (Baby, it’s bad out there), I’m not distancing…” and “I’ll take your mask, your smile looks swell,” the reinvented version has a new lyrical twist coupled with the traditional jazz and swing feel of the original.

Recorded separately in their respective studios, the satirical rendition is written by Jen Lilley and multi-GRAMMY award-winning producer Rob Christie. The duo is backed by world-class musicians, including Mindi Abair on saxophone, Chuck Berghofer on stand-up bass, and Gregg Field on drums.

Lilley asked Lanning to join the track saying, “Bryan has an incredible voice that I knew would harmonize well with mine. From his YouTube channel, you can tell he has a great sense of humor and authentic in every way. He’s the kind of person you want to collaborate with: kind, hard-working, and a team player. I’m thrilled to debut this uplifting and humorous duet with him."

Lanning added, “When Jen asked me to be a part of the song and I listened and read the updated lyrics, I was laughing so much my wife thought something was wrong with me! I knew I had to put my voice on it immediately. I hope it brings others a little hope and a lotta joy this holiday season. “

Bryan Lanning was born to a single mother in San Diego, California, where he lived with his older sister in a small apartment. By the age of 5, Lanning already had an impressive collection of cassette tapes, creating a passion for music at a young age. At the age of six, Lanning and his family moved to Idaho, near his grandmother, who played an active role in supporting his talents and enrolled him in the Idaho Children’s Opera. While in school, he was hand-selected to join the school choir (despite being too young), exposing the young artist to a wide range of musical genres and further igniting his love for the art. This resulted in his love for the art being further ignited. During that time, his family moved to the mountains, where they experienced a country life that was vastly different from what he was used to. They lived off the land, ate what they hunted, and chopped and gathered wood to stay warm. It was that point in which Lanning became a fan of country music. He'd listen while working in the yard, and in the truck on the way to fishing, archery, and hunting competitions. In August 2008, he married his high school sweetheart, Missy. Shortly after, the couple sold all of their belongings and moved back to California in hopes to find more job opportunities and to start a family. Facing nothing but tragedy while trying to conceive, the couple created a YouTube Channel called Daily Bumps, where they candidly shared their story to help others going through similar struggles. With 5 million subscribers, the popular channel continues to draw new fans who are interested in keeping up with Lanning’s life, family, and now, music. Now a father to two beautiful little boys, Bryan is also the CEO and founder to the professional music studio, Cali Co. Music, where he continues to write and record new music, as well as a media company that manages a team of people who create video and audio content for brands and other clients.
